1.      Introductions & Opening Comments – Blake Williams

a.       Welcome and introductions  - Blake called the meeting to order @ 6:02PM.

b.       Looking for the following adult volunteers: Adult Recognition Coordinator, Internal Merit Badge Coordinator,

2.        Leawood Lions – Gary Flick/Chick Atwell – Report

a.       Pancake tickets for Pancake Days available through the Lions

                                                                                                                                                         i.      Event to occur on October 16, 17 & 18 @ Leawood City Hall

                                                                                                                                                       ii.      Adults $6.00; Children under 10 - $3.00

                                                                                                                                                      iii.      Friday night, Saturday & Sunday

                                                                                                                                                      iv.      Love to have scouts sell greenery at Pancake Days

                                                                                                                                                        v.      Ken Hamacher to attend next 2 Monday meetings to inform troop of Pancake Days

 

3.       Scoutmaster Update – Greg Spies - Report

a.       Senior Patrol Leader – Brian Leeper

                                                                                                                                                         i.      tomorrow meeting – meal planning for camporee

                                                                                                                                                       ii.      scouts to plan activities for camporee

                                                                                                                                                      iii.      Practice folding “giant” flag 

 

4.       Outdoor Activities (Camping/Grubmaster) – Scott Brown/Brian Leeper/David Corley

a.       October 23, Halloween Outing – Still looking for an adult leader to coordinate

b.       November 13-15, Feast, Camp Ernst

                                                                                                                                                         i.      Alumni will be welcome

                                                                                                                                                       ii.      All set w/ reservations at Ernst

                                                                                                                                                      iii.      Discussion on proper decorum with troop & respect of out buildings and fields

                                                                                                                                                      iv.      Invite some adults who camped at Ernst 70 years ago.

                                                                                                                                                        v.      Invite Troop 6 to attend

                                                                                                                                                      vi.      Lions club may be willing to sponsor Troop 6 to attend

                                                                                                                                                     vii.      Leadership training will occur this weekend too

1.       Next year, every assistant scout master will have to be trained per HOAC

a.       Youth Protection

b.       This is Scouting

c.       Assistant Scout Master Training

2.       Outdoor leadership Training – this is what will be happening @ Ernst Friday PM & Saturday all day

3.       HOAC position - there will be no adult interfacing with scouts who hasn’t been trained

 

c.       December 4-6, Omaha Zoo 

                                                                                                                                                         i.      Zoo closed to camping in December when trip planned

                                                                                                                                                       ii.      Alternative – camp at Squaw Creek preserve

                                                                                                                                                      iii.      PLC will determine direction and change of venue if necessary

 

5.       2009 District Camporee

a.       2009 District Camporee, Oct 9-11, former Southview Golf Club – Blake Williams/Greg Spies 

                                                                                                                                                         i.      Last week has been spent preparing grounds

                                                                                                                                                       ii.      Activity areas have been staked off

                                                                                                                                                      iii.      Camping areas will be next

                                                                                                                                                      iv.      Camporee committee will meet following Committee Meeting

1.       Activities

a.       T10 – Log Carry

b.       T10 – Cannon Ball Golf

c.       Still need water balloon sling shot

 

2.       Campfire – in good shape – fire detail complete

3.       Friday PM – Movie

4.       Sunday AM – Chapel service

5.       Facilities – everything to be delivered Friday AM

6.       Still need pick-up trucks

7.       Need Hay Bailer

8.       Any and all help could be used bright and early Friday afternoon

9.       Thursday night – Grubmaster committee @ 7PM to assist w/ food prep

 

6.       Equipment Coordinator – Chuck Gibson

a.       Tent inventory – short – haven’t received inventory for Liberty Bells, Raptors, Frontiersmen, Antelope since campout

7.       Membership – Todd Martz - Recruiting update

a.       Camporee – 120 guests expected

1.       6 scouts already qualified

2.       10/15 – Eagle BOR – up to 9 candidates

a.       6:30 PM

b.       3 shifts

 

9.       Scout Leadership – Doug Ball

a.       Finished JLT

b.       Julia Day ready to step in to backfill Patty Cokingtin

c.       Typical challenge – many boys who don’t need  leadership have signed up for roles

d.       Jim Cook to refine so we know who is in positions and who needs to be in a position

 

10.  Finance – John Martin

a.       Treasurer’s report

                                                                                                                                                         i.      Typically – after shooter safety we’re in the black, however, we’re in the red

1.       Don’t know why but working to understand

2.       Still have to donate to Landua’s group for their help

a.       Typically donation to Clay County Sheriffs Dept.

b.       Bias to donate same amount as last year

                                                                                                                                                         i.      Motion moved & seconded to keep donation the same as last year

                                                                                                                                                       ii.      Motion passed unanimously

                                                                                                                                                       ii.      With Bartle payment due – finances are always tight this time of year

                                                                                                                                                      iii.      Need to re-assess camping fees to cover actual costs going forward

 

11.   Fundraising – Barbara Cusick

a.       Scout targets and buy-out amount

b.       Slight increase of commitment

                                                                                                                                                         i.      $100 sales (50/50 split troop/scout)

                                                                                                                                                       ii.      buyout @ $60

1.       Motion to move sale amount to $100 and buyout to $60 and seconded

2.       No additional comments

3.       Motion carried

 

12.   Honor Programs

a.       O/A  – Rob Baker

                                                                                                                                                         i.      Sign up for C team

1.       15 scouts have expressed interest

2.       6 of those scouts will participate in camporee

                                                                                                                                                       ii.      Julia Day & David Contag will review costumes with eye towards tap-out

                                                                                                                                                      iii.      Bobby Goheen will be OA TR

 

b.       Mic-O-Say – Bob Tenny/Jim Wasko

                                                                                                                                                         i.      Meeting at last campout

                                                                                                                                                      ii.      There shouldn’t be any confusion for those who attended on needs for Mic –O–Say advancement

 

13.   Community Service Projects – John Ahart

a.       Pioneer trails – Troop 6 – boy led – Troop 10 scouts are doing a great job working with the scouts in T6 – Eagle Core

b.       Crew 2011 – Church of Resurrection Crew - also needs older scouts to assist with leadership

c.       Abby’s Run coming up on Sunday, October 11 – same time as Camporee

 

14.  Trailhead District Meeting – Scott Bower

a.       Roundtable – One troop gave presentation on biking

b.       November meeting – Business theme – perhaps have a speaker on the stock market

 

15.  New Business/Open Discussion – All 

a.       High adventure – Black Beards trip out there taking registration

b.       Some inquired about Rocky Mountain high adventure this evening

                                                                                                                                                         i.      Per Quentin Cokingtin - Cut-off in January for Blackbeards

                                                                                                                                                       ii.      Quentin will pull together info for a summer Rocky Mountain high adventure alternative

 

c.       Senior PL would like colored neckerchiefs for leadership positions – Blake Williams to speak with neckerchief coordinator

d.       Highway Clean-up Report – Per Jim Leeper – activity went well – no injuries – 60 scouts in attendance

 

16.   Blake Williams closed the meeting at 7:42PM.
