Troop 10 Committee Meeting

Sunday, June 7th, 2009

Meeting 6:00 pm

Blue Hills Country Club

Members Present

1.       Introductions & Opening Comments – Blake Williams

    1. Blake Williams called the meeting to order @ 5:05PM (early start due to Mic-O-Say elections later in the evening.
    2. Jim Wasko recognized Greg Spies for his recent elevation in the tribe of MOS to Sachem – white paint.
    3. Looking for the following adult volunteers:, Community Service Projects, backup Religious Awards Coordinator

2.       Scoutmaster Update – Greg Spies

a. Senior Patrol Leader – AJ Eaton

                                                                                                                                                                                             i.      1st year campout went well – may older scouts participated and assisted with 1st year advancement requirements – many rank advancement requirements were signed off.

                                                                                                                                                                                           ii.      Eaton still pondering how to use the Bass Pro gift cards –considering something for Bartle

                                                                                                                                                                                          iii.      Summer camp

1. Movie night – working on a # of titles

2. Perhaps use money from Bass Pro as motivation for best skits.

 

3.       Bartle 2009

    1. Bartle 2009 – Charlie Loudon

                                                                                                                                                                                             i.      Discussion regarding providing a “wifi” network again at Bartle

                                                                                                                                                                                           ii.      Key, McCabe & Williams agreed to investigate further

                                                                                                                                                                                          iii.      Would enable parents to stay in touch with email while at camp

 

4.       2009 District Camporee

    1. 2009 District Camporee – Blake Williams

                                                                                                                                                                                             i.      Dates – Oct 9-11

                                                                                                                                                                                           ii.      Theme – Extreme Sports Challenge

                                                                                                                                                                                          iii.      Still looking for an appropriate site

                                                                                                                                                                                          iv.      Will need many volunteers from T10

 

5.       Community Service Projects

    1. Urban Outreach

                                                                                                                                                                                             i.      Delano School – John Ahart

1. Date – July 10 – confirmed

2. 5 adults + kids confirmed

3. decision on give-away pending – fanny packs vs. t-shirts

4. Kathy Peters helping with food

6. Same location

7. 8AM to 2PM

8. OA Dancers will kick-off day

 

    1. Scoutreach, Eagle Corps, Pioneer Trails District – John Ahart, Patty Cokingtin, Jim Shetlar

                                                                                                                                                                                             i.      Urban Core / Suburban Troop council has formed

1. Idea – Eagle Corps Pilot

a. 4-6 Eagle Scouts

b. 1 year commitment to work with an urban core troop

2. Create a “core” troop w/ assistance by T10 Eagles

a. Have urban core troops camp w/ T10

 

6.       New Business/Open Discussion – All 

    1. Brent Reynolds suggested cleaning and maintaining Spies Farm Gravesite would be a worthy service project for the troop.

                                                                                                                                                                                             i.      Discussion ensued – no decision was reached

    1. Garrett Shropshire

                                                                                                                                                                                             i.      Take RED color team down 1 patrol to 3, given the changing demographics of the team

                                                                                                                                                                                           ii.      Agreed Spies and color team leaders will evaluate and bring forward a recommendation at the start of the school year.

    1. John Martin

                                                                                                                                                                                             i.      Troop’s Accounts Receivables are coming down with activity expected  at truck loading for Bartle

    1. Camp Scholarships – Thru Lions Club foundation

                                                                                                                                                                                             i.      Have met all the needs for this year for scouts who need assistance w/ fees to attend Bartle

                                                                                                                                                                                           ii.      Remaining money rolled over for next year

                                                                                                                                                                                          iii.      One recipient whose son will benefit from the program talked about donating in the future when the family gets back on its feet

    1. Fundraising – Barb Cusick

                                                                                                                                                                                             i.      Committee agreed that the troop’s fundraising project would again be Holiday Greenery

1. Delivery set for week b/4 Thanksgiving

    1. Jeff Muchow – New Parent Mentor Program

                                                                                                                                                                                             i.      Jeff asked all mentors to touch base with their counterpart prior to Bartle to make sure all questions have been answered

    1. Brent Reynolds reminded all that a scout must have a scout spirit card completed before a Scoutmaster’s Conference can occur.

 

Meeting adjourned by Blake Williams at 5:55PM – remainder of the meeting focused on annual Mic-O-Say elections.
